Scarlett Dawn has been racing mountain bikes since primary school. This year (2025), she won the TSSA Championships for Cross Country and earned a gold medal in Enduro at the North Island Secondary Schools Championships in Tauranga, where she also placed fourth in Cross Country. Racing is what motivates her to keep riding and training. With few girls competing in mountain biking, she loves attending races for the chance to meet and connect with other girls who ride.
How We Helped
The Taranaki Youth Boost helped support Scarlett journey to Nelson for the National Secondary Schools Mountain Biking Championship in October. The funding covered the cost of the ferry and accommodation for her and her parents, making it possible to compete without the financial strain of South Island travel. After winning the North Island Secondary Schools Enduro Championship, she was determined to test herself against some of the country’s fastest riders. Thanks to the support from Taranaki Youth Boost, she was able to do just that, finishing fifth overall, her best result yet at a National Schools Championship.
