Boosting our Taranaki Youth​

The following stories highlight the journeys of past recipients – each one a testament to the resilience, talent, and ambition that define the youth of Taranaki.

From aspiring athletes to budding artists, these individuals have leveraged their Youth Boost grants to unlock opportunities, overcome challenges, and make meaningful contributions to their communities.

Kalani
Kalani is an elite downhill mountain biker dominating the NZDH circuit and stepping onto the international stage. The boost helped support his pathway to the UCI DHI World Cup, enabling him to continue progressing at the highest level.
Hadley
Hadley is a rising tennis player who has already represented New Zealand internationally. The boost supported travel to key national tournaments, helping him gain invaluable experience on international-standard clay courts as he pursues future NZ selection.
Alyssa
Alyssa is a hardworking competitive swimmer who qualified for the Division 2 Swimming Championships in Dunedin. The boost helped cover travel costs, enabling her to gain vital race experience and continue developing in the sport.
Anika
Anika is a committed Touch athlete selected to compete at Nationals. The boost helped cover essential travel and tournament costs, supporting her opportunity to compete at a national level.
Reagan
Reagan is a passionate young cricketer focused on developing his skills safely. The boost helped provide essential protective equipment for him and his sister, supporting their continued involvement in hard ball cricket.
Bethany
Bethany is an experienced athletics official selected for the 2026 Oceania Championships in Darwin. The boost helped cover travel and accommodation costs, supporting her volunteer officiating journey while starting university.
Eden
Eden is a dedicated figure skater and Oceania Championships representative for New Zealand. The boost helped cover essential training, equipment, and travel costs, ensuring she can fully pursue her 2026 season and continue developing her talent.
Charlie
Charlie is an emerging U17 triathlete competing in the Youth Triathlon Series across the North Island. The boost helped cover the cost of essential gear, supporting his development in a high-demand sport.
Stella
Stella is a committed dual-code athlete excelling in Premier Netball and Touch, with national trial and development opportunities under her belt. The boost helped cover the costs of her NZSS Touch Nationals campaign, supporting both her sporting goals and her wish to give back to her parents for their support.
Hayley
This talented rugby player earned selection to multiple representative teams and the Global Youth Sevens tournament. The boost helped cover costs, giving her the opportunity to showcase her skills internationally and achieve a long-standing personal goal.
Talei-Jean
Talei is a standout dual-code athlete representing Taranaki in both U16 Basketball and Touch, with major tournaments across New Zealand and Australia. The boost helped ease the financial pressure of her busy rep calendar, supporting her and her whānau as she chases every opportunity to compete at the highest.
Scarlett Dawn
Scarlett Dawn is a talented mountain biker who’s achieved top results in Cross Country and Enduro. With support from Taranaki Youth Boost, she travelled to Nelson for the National Championships, finishing fifth — her best result yet.
Matthew
Matthew has demonstrated exceptional talent and commitment in Ultimate Frisbee, earning selection to the New Zealand U20 Men’s Training Squad.
Deja
Deja is a talented Rugby League player, he has been selected in the STARS Academy Senior Tour. This grant will play a huge role in helping Deja pursue his passion for League and take the next step toward turning it into a career.
Divan
Divan is a keen golfer. He’s currently playing off a 0.2 handicap and represented Taranaki Golf the last few years at inter provincial tournaments. He recently won the Dunlop Insurance 27 Hole Classic event at Te Ngutu.
Risha
Thanks to Youth Boost, 17-year-old Risha is advancing her passion for technology and leadership – growing her She++ club and developing Brainwave, a peer tutoring app making a real difference in her school community.
Harriet
Thanks to Youth Boost, 16-year-old Harriet Muller will travel to Dallas in 2025 to represent New Zealand as part of the Secondary Schools U-19 football team, capping off a year of hard work and dedication.
Amy
Amy, an 18-year-old para-athlete with a severe visual impairment, discovered her stride through Parafed Taranaki and the Halberg Games. With help from Youth Boost, she’s now chasing her passion for running on both national and international stages.
Annabel
At just 11 years old, Annabel is making waves in wakeboarding, winning the North Island Champs for her age group. With support from Youth Boost, she competed at Nationals.
Mia
Mia earned her spot on the New Zealand team for the Junior World Canoe Sprint Championships in Portugal. Youth Boost helped ease the cost of the self-funded trip, supporting Mia take on the world stage.
Tom
Thanks to support from Youth Boost, Tom was able to travel to France to represent his short film at the Cannes Film Festival’s Directors’ Fortnight.
Jerome
Financial assistance from Youth Boost helped Jerome Tamatea chase his dream of making the New Zealand Junior Tall Blacks U17 team.
Kalani
Financial assistance from Youth Boost helped Kalani to attend the ISA World Junior Surfing Champs in El Salvador.
Kalissa
Winning the Youth Boost enabled Kalissa to compete at the Performing Arts Competitions Association of New Zealand.
Riley
The Youth Boost assisted Riley to play for the Junior Tall Blacks at Asia Cup in Iran.
